Chiropractic Care From Your Head...

images (1).jpg

If you have a headache, you’re not alone. Nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches. Some are occasional, some frequent, some are dull and throbbing, and some cause debilitating pain and nausea. While commonly occurring, that doesn’t make headaches “normal” and there are many good options for treatment and prevention.

What do you do when you suffer from a pounding headache? Do you grit your teeth and carry on? Lie down? Pop a pill and hope the pain goes away? Regular chiropractic care can help reduce and even eliminate the frequency and intensity of chronic headaches. Research shows that chiropractic adjustments may be an effective treatment option for tension headaches and headaches that originate in the neck. Headaches can have triggers such as environmental stimuli (sounds, noises, stress), hormones, or eating certain foods. Some headaches can be posture related, being sedentary or sitting in front of a computer for long stretches at a time can cause tension in the neck and ligaments of the cervical spine.

How can Chiropractic care help you? Your chiropractor may perform chiropractic adjustments to improve spinal function and alleviate stress on your system. They may also provide nutritional advice and recommend any needed supplementation. Your chiropractor can also help you with ideal posture, work or home office ergonomics and relaxation techniques. All of these things can help to relieve the recurring joint irritation and tension in the muscles and joints of the neck and upper back.

...To Your Toes!

"You can adjust feet?!" This is a question we have heard over and over. Of course we can! At Los Gatos Chiropractic and Wellness Center we work on ALL the joints, and your feet have a lot of them. The human foot has 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments, 19 muscles and tendons. Our feet are the foundation of our body and yes they can and should be adjusted! When our feet have proper mobility they absorb forces from the ground properly and this takes some of the load off of our low back and pelvis. If we have foot pain we may be walking with a limp or avoiding the painful area of the foot, this can lead to poor gait mechanics and also low back and neck pain. Getting your feet adjusted can help with the health of your feet, your low back and neck! Ask us about getting your feet adjusted next time you are in the office.

Recipe: Butternut White Bean Soup

With the start of fall, and cooler temperatures (hopefully!) right around the corner, this tasty soup will fill your belly and warm you up!

  • 8 ounces white beans (canned or soaked overnight)

  • 4-6 C broth

  • 2 TB oil

  • 1 minced onion

  • 2-3 cloves garlic; minced

  • 1 TB sage; chopped (a little less if dried)

  • 1 large butternut squash; peeled and diced (4 C)

  • salt and black pepper to taste

  • 1 bunch of kale

Heat the oil in a large pot and saute the onion over medium heat until translucent. Add garlic and sage. Drain beans, transfer to pot, and add broth to cover. Bring to a boil, lower heat to a simmer, and cook about 1 hour until the beans are tender.

Add squash and broth to cover, return to simmer for another 30 minutes until the squash is tender.

Tear kale into bite sized pieces, ladle soup into serving bowls and add kale. You can add the kale to the entire soup pot but it will cook and become tender. I add it bowl by bowl because my family likes their kale crunchy!
