Did you know your immune system and mood are connected to your digestion?
70% of our immune system is located in our intestines. When our gut is not functioning properly our immune system may be compromised. If you are having lower abdominal pain, bloating, loose stools, or constipation your GI tract may need support. If you are frequently getting sick or have symptoms of autoimmunity this can be helped by healing your gut.
The gut also affects the brain and mood. The GI tract has its own nervous system that is separate from the autonomic nervous system, called the enteric nervous system. The enteric nervous system contains as many neurons as the spinal cord and also produces neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine all of which help to regulate mood.
Having a healthy GI tract is very important! When the gut is healthy our brain health and immune health is improved.
Here in the office I help people get to the root cause of digestive and digestive related issues. I will usually make some diet change recommendations and do a comprehensive digestive analysis, along with supplement recommendations to help heal and support the GI tract.
